1 Month To Go

We are entering our 3rd month of lockdown this month. With any luck, lockdown will end at the end of this month but let’s not get our hopes up. Even if it does get extended, we are closer to the end of the tunnel.

This lockdown has been long. Schools were closed this whole time so those with kids and were lucky enough to be able to work from home also had to contend with home schooling for these months. It’s been hard, businesses who were non essential have been closed this whole time and I have seen many stores closed locally (forever). Rules and regulations change weekly, it’s hard to keep up.

I’ve stopped reading the news altogether the past few weeks and instead have focused on what I can control. My time, what I consume, exercise and eating and sleeping well.

Conversations with friends and family have led me to know that this lockdown has been hard on everyone for one reason or another.

I am looking forward to seeing family and friends again and giving them all hugs.

I am looking forward to reading on the beach.

I am looking forward to getting a haircut from someone other than myself.

I am looking forward to going to an art gallery.

I am looking forward to getting a matcha ice-cream from my favourite matcha cafe.

I am looking forward to browsing a bookstore.

I am looking forward to having a drink somewhere with a nice view of the world.

I am looking forward to having a nice comforting bowl of pho at a restaurant.

      1. Over here in Malaysia we’re at 20,000 cases per day, so uh, it’s pretty out of control. The government isn’t doing much, so the rest of us are just making our own decisions to stay home.

  1. It’s crazy to hear about your situation across the pond. Meanwhile in the US, the Delta variant is running rampant and, despite the number of people getting sick and begin hospitalized from it, businesses and people are still going strong. I don’t like the situation we’re in in the US, and we’ll have to see just what happens going into 2022 and onwards with COVID-19, its variants, and everything else. Hang on to hope– you got this!

    1. Each country is at such different stages and handling with it all. Hoping that the hospitals will be ok over there. Was reading that Denmark are dropping all restrictions later this month (however they have a high vax rate). At least there is some hope!

  2. Glad to hear you are focusing on the positives and, in particular, reducing and even avoiding the news. Minimising all that is one of the best things we did in order to reclaim control, reduce anxiety and install a greater sense of calm. Wishing you all the best going forward.

  3. All of the feelings you describe here are similar feelings I had during our first lockdown last year. I also avoided the news after a month of being on lockdown in order to maintain my sanity. What I can tell you after having gone through this myself last year, is that I learned to be more grateful. Now, I appreciate the ability to go out whatever I want to go, travel whatever I want to travel to, and even the things that we took for granted before like, our kids being able to go to school or visiting friends and family, have become very precious valuables in my life now.

  4. Funny video and sorry to hear you guys down south are still struggling. The approaches seems to be so different from one state to another. We still wear masks but can move around now. People here are doing a great job of social distancing but it seems inevitable that the Delta variant will reach Qld too. It is incredible to think it started from just one person….

    1. I hope we are closer to the end now as I’m struggling! I think it might be the case that we will be able to go overseas from the east coast faster than we can visit the other states at the rate that we’re going. Hoping it stays calm up your way.

  5. These are very familiar feelings, and I’m so sorry you have to go through these too. Here the lockdown has been over for some time and I hope yours will not be extended either. It’s really good to focus on the positive things and especially on yourself. Hang in there!

  6. Here in the U.S. (my area at least) everything was shut down over the long, long winter. We could do restaurant take out after a while. Things have opened up quite a bit with vaccinations, but still being careful as the variants are raging. Take care and hang on!

  7. It is such a difficult situation. Here in the US, lockdowns mean zero income for some people, and not to mention the same psychological effects that everyone experiences with isolation. I am a teacher, and I can’t believe how far behind some of our students are. But at the same time, we recently had a 4-year-old die from the virus, and I know other people who have family members who are very sick. I, too, have stopped reading and watching the news. It is such a crazy time that we all live in, and I can’t wait until it is just a weird story that we all tell our grandchildren!

    1. Oh wow, it would’ve been so hard to stay motivated as a final school year student getting ready to sit exams as well. It’s such a double edged sword isn’t it between balancing control but also everyone’s wellbeing. It will be a story to tell for sure.
